Many homebrewing conicals include an etched internal level gauge. To actually use it, however, you'll need to keep the lid off of your fermenter exposing the wort to potential contamination. The G4 optional external level gauge is a design borrowed from Blichmann's line of Pro conicals. Much easier to read, and you never have to open the unit to view it.
